Not far from this cemetery in Bergheim, there is a burial hill in Niederaußem that dates back as far as 4000 BC, well before the Romans settled in Bergheim around 50 BC. Niederaussem is now known for its lignite-fired Power Station but not for too long as all coal plants are being phased out by 2038.
